THIS TEXT CONSIDERS THE ORGANIZATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF A PROFESSIONAL HOSPITAL SECURITY FORCE, SECURITY OPERATIONS AND CONTROLS, AND HOSPITAL SAFETY (FIRES, BOMBS, AND HAZARDS).
Abstract
TECHNIQUES IDENTIFIED IN THE TRAINING MANUAL FOR HOSPITAL SECURITY GUARDS ARE ADAPTABLE TO EACH HOSPITAL'S UNIQUE PHYSICAL LAYOUT, SIZE, POPULATION, AND PROBLEMS, AND OTHER TECHNIQUES ARE GERMANE TO ALL HOSPITAL SECURITY OPERATIONS. THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN EFFECTIVE HOSPITAL SECURITY FORCE INVOLVES RECOGNITION OF THE NEED FOR HOSPITAL SECURITY, PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF SECURITY GUARDS, HUMAN RELATIONS, AND HOSPITAL SECURITY GUARD TRAINING. SIGNIFICANT ELEMENTS OF SECURITY OPERATIONS AND CONTROLS ARE HOSPITAL THEFT, PATROLS, PACKAGE PASS SYSTEMS, EMPLOYEE PARKING CONTROL, GUIDELINES FOR SECURITY GUARDS ASSIGNED TO EMERGENCY AREAS, VISITOR CONTROL, PATIENT VALUABLES, INTEGRATED SECURITY SYSTEMS, ARREST, SEARCH AND SEIZURE, AND WRITTEN REPORTS. HOSPITAL SAFETY MAINTENANCE IS CONCERNED WITH FIRE PREVENTION AND CONTROL, THE HANDLING OF BOMB THREATS, COMPLYING WITH PROVISIONS OF THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT OF 1970, AND ORGANIZING A SAFETY COMMITTEE.
