This manual provides guidelines for use by medicolegal investigators in carrying out investigations of homicides, as well as discovering whether cases presented as accidents or suicides are actually homicides.
Abstract
The guidelines list 12 types of homicides ranging from assault and felony murders to contract killings and terrorism. The instructions explain how to carry out an investigation of the scene and how to communicate with medical authorities who have helped give emergency treatment as well as with hospital authorities who helped with the surgical management of the case. The manual explains the role of the forensic pathologist and gives guidelines for presenting evidence. Checklists, glossary, index, list of medicolegal investigative centers in the United States, and an appendix presenting forms and reference tables.
