THE 'HOLDING QUAD' IS A TACTICAL FIELD PROCEDURE WHICH REDUCES INJURIES TO POLICE OFFICERS WHO RESPOND INITIALLY ALONE TO HOSTILE GROUP CALLS FOR SERVICE.
Abstract
THE 'HOLDING QUAD' MAY BE ADOPTED IN ANY SITUATION WHICH MAY CAUSE A THREAT TO OFFICERS RESPONDING INITIALLY ALONE. IT IS ALSO USEFUL FOR SITUATIONS IN WHICH THERE IS NO ADVANCE NOTICE AND NO TIME FOR THOROUGH PREPARATION AND STAGING. UNDER THE SYSTEM, AVAILABLE UNITS RESPONDING TO A CALL WILL STOP ONE BLOCK FROM THE SCENE. NO ONE WILL RESPOND TO THE SCENE UNTIL FOUR OFFICERS ARE IN THE HOLDING POSITION, PERMITTING FOUR OFFICERS TO ARRIVE SIMULTANEOUSLY AND PROVIDING THEM WITH MAXIMUM PROTECTION AVAILABLE AT THE TIME.
