THIS WORKSHOP CONSIDERED THE PROBLEM OF HIGHWAY SAFETY AND THE DEMANDS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRAFFIC COURT JUDGES AND MUST DEAL WITH TRAFFIC OFFENDERS IN COURT.
Abstract
GROUP DISCUSSIONS COVERED THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: THE TYPE OF DRIVER WHO COMMITS TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS, THE POSSIBILITY OF IDENTIFYING AND PREDICTING WHO WILL BECOME INVOLVED IN CRASHES, THE PROBLEM DRIVER, AND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF EDUCATION AND REHABILITATION COUNTERMEASURES IN CORRECTING THE DRIVING PERFORMANCE OF TRAFFIC VIOLATORS. RESEARCH ABSTRACTS OF REPRESENTATIVE PUBLICATIONS ARE INCLUDED UNDER EACH TOPIC. THREE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE TRAFFIC COURT JUDGE WERE IDENTIFIED - TO INCREASE RESPECT FOR THE COURTS AND THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE; TO SELECT SANCTIONS APPROPRIATE TO INDIVIDUAL TRAFFIC LAW OFFENDERS; AND TO REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS AND OF ACCIDENTS RESULTING FROM THOSE VIOLATIONS. ABSTRACTS OF SOURCE DOCUMENTS DEALING WITH APPROACHES FOR MEETING THESE DEMANDS ARE PRESENTED. A BIBLIOGRAPHY IS ALSO PROVIDED.
