THE PROCEEDINGS OF AN INTERNATIONAL COURSE FOR POLICE FORCES ON ORGANIZED PROFESSIONAL CRIME ARE REPORTED.
Abstract
THE COURSE WAS HELD BY THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER OF SOCIOLOGICAL PENAL AND PENITENTIARY RESEARCH AND STUDIES IN MESSINA AND ROME (ITALY) FROM OCTOBER 8 TO OCTOBER 20, 1979. IT WAS ATTENDED BY GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES, JOURNALISTS AND INDIVIDUAL POLICE OFFICERS FROM 20 NATIONS (INCLUDING THE UNITED STATES.) THE PURPOSE OF THE COURSE WAS TO IMPROVE POLICE RESPONSE TO INTERNATIONAL CRIME BY IDENTIFYING AND ANALYZING THE ELEMENTS OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZED CRIMINALITY AND BY PROMOTING THE SHARING OF EXPERIENCES BETWEEN POLICE OFFICERS AND CRIMINOLOGISTS IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. SUMMARIES OF EIGHT PLENARY SESSIONS AND TWO WORKSHOPS ARE GIVEN. THE NAMES OF THE CENTER'S STAFF, THE COURSE PROGRAMS FOR MESSINA AND ROME, AND A LIST OF THE PARTICIPANTS AND THEIR QUALIFICATIONS ARE INCLUDED. PAPERS PRESENTED AT THE CONFERENCE COVERED SUCH SUBJECTS AS TERRORISM SMUGGLING, AND CRIME PREVENTION. A BROCHURE ON THE CENTER'S ACTIVITIES IS APPENDED. A PAPER IN FRENCH IS INCLUDED.
