THIS ARTICLE ON BUILDING AND TENANT SECURITY TAKES UP BOTH THE SECURITY AND FIRE SAFETY OF THE ATLANTIC RICHFIELD PLAZA, AND THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF ONE OF THE PLAZA'S MAJOR TENANTS.
Abstract
BASED ON INTERVIEWS WITH THE DIRECTOR OF SAFETY AND SECURITY FOR THE PLAZA'S BUILDING MANAGEMENT COMPANY AND THE ATLANTIC RICHFIELD COMPANY DIRECTOR OF SECURITY, THIS ARTICLE DETAILS THE BUILT IN SAFETY FEATURES AND SAFETY PLANS FOR THIS MAJOR LOS ANGELES HIGH-RISE COMPLEX. A DESCRIPTION OF THE PHYSICAL LAYOUT AND DESIGN IS FIRST PROVIDED. SUCH FIRE PROTECTION FEATURES AS SPECIAL PRESSURIZED STAIRWAYS, SMOKE VENTING, FIRE DETECTORS, AND A SPECIALLY TRAINED FIRE BRIGADE MANNED WITH BUILDING PERSONNEL. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE THE POWER-INDEPENDENT EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS, IMPROVED ELEVATOR CONTROL, AND EVACUATION PROCEDURES. SEE ALSO NCJ-26270.
