A bereavement approach model to bailed sex offenders is proposed which acknowledges and manages the losses the bailee has suffered since being charged and bailed away from home, respects bailees' unconvicted status and accepts them as people without accepting their alleged behavior, and avoids collusion by corrective responses.
Abstract
The model's management strategies help the resident and worker to understand what has occurred and to facilitate personal change. Appropriate for new bailees who exhibit symptoms of post-disclosure shock and grief, the approach involves permission to grieve, help to deal with the practicalities of daily life and to accept responsibility, and family support. The model can serve as a tool to provide focus and direction for work with an unconvicted sex offender during the period before the court hearing. 5 references
