This paper discusses the success of job clubs sponsored by the U.K.-based National Association for the Care and Resttlement of Offenders (NACRO), which offered services for more than 2,000 ex- offenders in 1991-1992.
Abstract
NACRO runs a variety of specialist job clubs to help released offenders and other people with drug or alcohol addictions, literacy problems, or numerancy or language difficulties who need expert help in their job search activities. Staff members at the NACRO job clubs try to build the participants confidence, act as advocates when necessary, work to change employers' policies toward hiring ex-offenders, and help participants change their own attitudes, make realistic choices, and cope with substance abuse. More than 46 percent of job club members found jobs during 1991-1992.
