This package of materials provides information, checklists, and forms for the San Luis Obispo Sheriff's Department (Calif.) rural community crime prevention program.
Abstract
Information on operation identification programs covers is included on the benefits of marking, how and what to mark, and where to obtain tools appropriate for marking varying kinds of equipment and possessions. A property inventory form for listing marked items also is provided. A rural crime prevention checklist emphasizes removing opportunities for crime and provides guidelines for equipment, product (livestock, timber), and building security including ways in which farmstead layout and design can increase security. Additional checklists provide a means for assessing residential, farm and ranch, and vacation security. These cover perimeter security, landscaping, doors and windows, outlying areas, barns and storage areas, and interior security. Types of suspicious activities that should be reported to the sheriff's office are described. Trespassing is defined, and the importance of fencing and posting property to discourage trespassers is discussed. Guidelines for reporting suspicious activities, trespassing, and vandalism also are supplied. Also included is a list of available farm watch signs and decals and a security survey request form.
