DATA ON THE ACTIVITIES AND EFFECTIVENESS OF THE FIRST SIX MONTH OPERATION OF 'PROJECT PHASE' PROGRAM IN THE COLUMBUS, OHIO POLICE DEPARTMENT FROM JANUARY THROUGH JUNE, 1972.
Abstract
DATA IS PROVIDED ON FLIGHT PATROL ACTIVITIES, TYPES OF EQUIPMENT, AND CHANGES IN CRIME RATES IN THE AREAS PATROLLED. RESULTS OF THE PROJECT INDICATE THAT THE CRIMES MOST SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTED ARE ROBBERY, BURGLARY, AND AUTO THEFTS, WHICH REFELCTED AN OVERALL DECREASE OF 14 PERCENT. IN ADDITION, HELICOPTER RESPONSE TO 10 DROWNING AND BOAT INCIDENTS MAY HAVE PREVENTED THE LOSS OF LIFE. OTHER RELATED PARAMETERS MUST BE EXAMINED TO DETERMINE THE FULL IMPACT OF THE PROJECT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT.
