THIS REPORT EXAMINES HEARING AND VISION STANDARDS AND POSSIBLE PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING TESTS THAT MAY BE EMPLOYED TO SELECT POLICE AND FIRE PERSONNEL.
Abstract
DECIBEL LEVELS OF ACCEPTABLE HEARING LOSS ARE DISCUSSED AND OTHER ORGANIZATION'S STANDARDS ARE REVIEWED. APPLICANTS WITH AN AVERAGE LOSS OF 26 DECIBELS IN THE 500 TO 2000 CYCLES PER SECOND RANGE AND 46 DECIBELS IN THE 3000 CYCLES PER SECOND RANGE ARE RECOMMENDED TO BE DISQUALIFIED. TESTING PROCEDURES AND EQUIPMENT ARE DISCUSSED. STANDARDS RELATING TO VISUAL ACUITY, COLOR VISION, FIELD OF VISION, DEPTH PERCEPTION, BINOCULAR VISION, AND NIGHT VISION ARE SUGGESTED. METHODS FOR THE AREAS OF VISUAL ACUITY, COLOR VISION, FIELD OF VISION, DEPTH PERCEPTION, BINOCULAR VISION, AND NIGHT VISION ARE DISCUSSED IN THE VISION SECTION. (SNI ABSTRACT)
