CONTAINS FINDINGS OF AN INVESTIGATION OF HEALTH CARE RECEIVED BY INMATES OF CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES IN HAWAII WITH ATTENTION GIVEN TO THE INMATES' RIGHT TO BOTH PHYSICIAL AND MENTAL TREATMENT.
Abstract
MEDICAL FACILITIES THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO INSTITUTIONALIZED INDIVIDUALS WERE VISTED, AND STAFFING, EQUIPMENT, AND SERVICES PROVIDED WERE EVALUATED. THE INVESTIGATING COMMITTEE CONCLUDED THAT THOUGH FACILITIES FOR THE PHYSICAL CARE OF INMATES IS DEFICIENT, ADDITIONAL FUNDING COULD REMEDY THE SITUATION. HOWEVER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT IS INADEQUATE, AND CONSIDERATION OF FUTURE PLANS FOR CHANGE IN THIS AREA IS HIGHLY INADEQUATE....KAP
