THIS REPORT PRESENTS STATISTICAL INFORMATION ON THE NUMBER OF DELINQUENTS ON WELFARE, THE INDEPENDENCE OF DELINQUENCY AND WELFARE, AND THE CORRELATION BETWEEN DELINQUENCY AND WELFARE BY CENSUS TRACT.
Abstract
IT IS NOTED THAT THE PROPORTION OF DELINQUENTS AND NON-DELINQUENTS ON WELFARE IS APPROXIMATELY THE SAME FOR THE TOTAL OAHU POPULATION AND FOR LOW DELINQUENCY AREAS, WHEREAS SLIGHTLY MORE NON-DELINQUENTS THAN DELINQUENTS WERE ON WELFARE IN HIGH DELINQUENCY AREAS. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW DELINQUENCY AREAS OF THE PROPORTIONG OF DELINQUENTS AND NON-DELINQUENTS ON WELFARE WAS FOUND TO BE STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT. A HIGH CORRELATION BETWEEN DELINQUENCY AND WELFARE PER CENSUS TRACT WAS NOTED FOR ALL OAHU CENSUS TRACTS.
