Abstract
Nearly 4,000 youths have participated in sports sponsored by the Police Activities League. The sports program promotes a friendly relationship between youth and police officers and targets young people between 6 and 17 years of age. The DARE program is a joint project of the Hawaii Police Department and the Department of Education. The value of property seized in drug cases during the 1989- 1990 fiscal year amounted to about $550,000. Also during the fiscal year, 3,560 traffic accidents occurred and 40 persons were killed in drinking-related accidents. Data on offenses known to the police and clearances are tabulated for 1989 according to Part I and Part II categories. Statistics are also provided for offenses and complaints known to the police by district in Hawaii County, criminal offenses cleared by juvenile arrests, juvenile arrests by district, juvenile arrests by age and sex, traffic accidents, and the ratio of the population to police officers. An organizational diagram of the Hawaii County Police Department is included.
