A DESCRIPTION OF THE DEVELOPMENT, MEMBERSHIP, AND ACTIVITIES OF THIS PRIVATELY-FINANCED INSTITUTION WHICH AIDS THE HARTFORD CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IN PLANNING AND DEVELOPING INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE.
Abstract
ADDRESSING THEMSELVES TO SPECIFIC PROBLEMS OF VARIOUS POPULATIONS WITHIN THE CITY, INSTITUTE STAFF HAVE CENTERED THEIR EFFORTS IN FOUR MAJOR AREAS - POLICE, COURTS, HEALTH SERVICES, AND CORRECTIONS. THIS BOOKLET DESCRIBES THE VARIOUS INSTITUTE PROGRAMS UNDERTAKEN IN EACH OF THESE AREAS. AMONG THE PROJECTS DISCUSSED ARE THE HARTFORD BAIL PROJECT, DEVELOPMENT OF NEW BOOKING PROCEDURES, RECRUIT TRAINING, A LAW STUDENT PROJECT, A PROJECT TO INCREASE WITNESS ATTENDANCE, AND A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE CIRCUIT COURT. OTHER HEALTH CARE AND CORRECTIONAL PROJECTS DESCRIBED INCLUDE A METHADONE MAINTENANCE TREATMENT PROGRAM, AN ALOCHOL DETOXIFICATION CENTER, A PRETRIAL DIVERSION PROJECT, AN OMBUDSMAN PROJECT, AND A PROBATION CASELOAD PROJECT. FINALLY, INSTITUTE EFFORTS IN NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME PREVENTION AND A CHILD ADVOCACY PROJECT ARE DISCUSSED.
