TWO CENTRAL INTAKE UNITS WERE USED IN THIS HOUSTON PROJECT TO SCREEN DRUG CLIENTS AND TO REFER THEM TO THE MOST APPROPRIATE AGENCY.
Abstract
THESE CENTRAL INTAKE UNITS WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR ACCEPTING REFERRALS FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AND ALL OTHER SOURCES, ANALYZING THE CLIENT'S NEEDS, AND REFERRING HIM TO ONE OF NINE TREATMENT MODALITIES IN THE HOUSTON AREA. STATISTICS ARE PRESENTED ON THE NUMBER OF CLIENT CONTACTS WITH THE CENTRAL INTAKE UNITS (CIU'S), CLIENT'S DRUG PROBLEMS, REFERRING AGENCIES, PLACEMENT OF CLIENTS IN THE VARIOUS TREATMENT MODALITIES, AND THE SUCCESS RATES OF CLIENTS SO REFERRED. THE REPORT POINTS OUT THAT ALTHOUGH THE CENTRAL INTAKE UNIT ACCOMPLISHED ONLY 42 PERCENT OF ITS GOAL IN TERMS OF THE NUMBER OF CLIENTS CONTACTED, THE SYSTEM PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMODATE THE FULL NUMBER.
