A TECHNIQUE OF IDENTIFYING HAPTOGLOBIN PHENOTYPES IN BLOOD STAINS BY VERTICAL ELECTROPHORESIS IN POLYACRYLAMIDE GEL IN A CONTINUOUS CONCENTRATION GRADIENT OF 5 TO 25 PERCENT IS EVALUATED AND FOUND SUCCESSFUL.
Abstract
BLOOD STAINS UP TO FIVE WEEKS OLD WERE SUCCESSFULLY GROUPED YIELDING REPRODUCIBLE RESULTS USING THIS TECHNIQUE. IT WAS SUCCESSFUL IN IDENTIFYING THE THREE MAIN HAPTOGLOBIN PHENOTYPES. AS WELL AS TWO RELATIVELY RARE VARIANTS WHICH OCCUR CHIEFLY IN NEGROID POPULATIONS. EQUIPMENT USED IN THIS METHOD IS PICTURED.
