This booklet describes steps that the citizens of Colorado can take to protect themselves against crime, with advice on self-protection for women, the elderly, and children. Community-crime prevention programs, such as Neighborhood Watch, are also discussed.
Abstract
Measures that can be taken against the following crimes are outlined: thefts (particularly of vehicles), burglaries, business crimes, robberies, shoplifting, fraudulent check passing, kidnapping and extortion, obscene phone calls, con games, and child molestation. Organizations that can provide crime prevention assistance for senior citizens are listed, and laws affecting young people (i.e., use of motorcycles, criminal mischief) are explained. Diagrams of equipment that can be used to secure a home from burglary are provided, while a discussion of con games covers home improvement frauds and door-to-door and telephone solicitation. Information on the State's child abuse statute and reporting procedures is given, and tips on pedestrian safety are included. The Operation Identification program is also described.
