THIS FILM ON HANDGUN SAFETY STRESSES ACCIDENT PREVENTION MEASURES, THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING SAFETY PRACTICES, THE NEED TO AVOID SPECIFIC DANGERS, AND THE LEGAL RESTRICTIONS ON THE USE OF GUNS IN SELF-DEFENSE.
Abstract
FROM BASIC SAFETY PRACTICES IN HANDLING AND STORING HANDGUNS TO THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DANGERS INHERENT IN GUN OWNERSHIP, THIS FILM ILLUSTRATES HOW TO HANDLE LEGALLY OWNED FIREARMS, THE PROCEDURES INVOLVED IN PURCHASING A GUN, SAFE STORAGE AND AND TRANSPORT, AND THE UNFORTUNATE EFFECTS OF LAX HANDGUN SAFETY. THE INSTRUCTION GIVEN IN A TYPICAL COMMUNITY GUN SAFETY CLASS IS HIGHLIGHTED, INCLUDING CLEANING AND HANDLING TIPS, WARNINGS ON PRACTICING FAST-DRAWS, AND SUGGESTIONS REGARDING MAKESHIFT PISTOL RANGES. DRAMATIZED SEQUENCES SHOW HOW FEAR, ALCOHOL AND DRUGS, AND VIOLENT EMOTIONS CAN TRIGGER ACCIDENTS WHEN GUNS ARE READILY AVAILABLE. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LESSENING THE CHANCES OF SUCH ACCIDENTS ARE ALSO NOTED. A FINAL DRAMATIZATION ILLUSTRATES THE LAWS RESTRICTING THE USE OF FIREARMS IN DEFENSE OF HOME AND PERSON. IT IS EMPHASIZED THAT USING A GUN AGAINST AN INTRUDER OR ASSAILANT IS ILLEGAL IF THAT OFFENDER IS UNARMED OR NOT INTENT ON DOING BODILY HARM. (KBL)
