THIS GUIDE ACCOMPANIES THE FILM SEE JANE RUN, WHICH IS DESIGNED TO STIMULATE RESPONSES BY AGENCIES AND INDIVIDUALS TO THE PROBLEMS OF RUNAWAYS AND STATUS OFFENDERS.
Abstract
SEE JANE RUN IS A 50-MINUTE, THREE-PART FILM DRAMA ABOUT A 13-YEAR-OLD FEMALE, TROUBLED BY FAMILY AND SCHOOL PROBLEMS, WHO RUNS AWAY FROM HOME AND GRADUALLY FALLS INTO DEEPER TROUBLE WITH THE LAW. MANY OF JANE'S PROBLEMS ARE TYPICAL OF THE EARLY ADOLESCENT YEARS, AND HER STORY IS SIMILAR TO THAT OF 180,000 OTHER YOUTHS HANDLED BY THE JUVENILE COURTS EACH YEAR. THE FILM'S GOAL IS TO PROMOTE ACTION IN ADVOCACY, SERVICES, AND LEGISLATION, ON BEHALF OF STATUS OFFENDERS. THE INTENDED AUDIENCES INCLUDE STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS IN AGENCIES DEALING WITH CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, OTHER PROFESSIONALS SUCH AS PROBATION OFFICERS AND JUDGES, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THE FILM SHOULD BE FOLLOWED BY A WELL PLANNED SMALL GROUP OR PANEL DISCUSSION PROGRAM. FOLLOWING A SYNOPSIS OF THE FILM, THE MANUAL PRESENTS GUIDELINES FOR A FILM SHOWING, INCLUDING PREPARATION, DISCUSSION QUESTIONS, AND FOLLOWUP AND COLLABORATION. SUGGESTED FOLLOWUP EVENTS INCLUDE A PRESS RELEASE SUMMARIZING THE EVENT, A MEETING OF THOSE VOLUNTEERING TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY EFFORTS, A SUMMARY OF THE EVENT'S REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS, AND CONTACT WITH STATE JUVENILE JUSTICE PLANNING AGENCIES. FIVE APPENDIXES PRESENT A FEEDBACK REPORT FORM, EVALUATION AND SIGNUP FORM, ADDRESS LIST OF STATE CONTACTS FOR INFORMATION ON JUVENILE JUSTICE LEGISLATION, SERVICES, AND PLANNING; AN ADDRESS LIST OF PERSONS TO CONTACT AT NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS; AND A LIST OF MATERIALS AVAILABLE FROM THE NATIONAL JUVENILE JUSTICE PROGRAM COLLABORATION. FOR THE FILM, SEE NCJ 65115. (CFW)
