This guide is designed to help school administrators, police officers assigned to a school, and non-sworn school security staff reduce student discipline and crime problems by using a new software application called the School Crime Operations Package (School COP).
Abstract
School COP enables school administrators and school personnel to record and store detailed information on incidents of student misconduct and crime. The purpose of this effort is to identify and prioritize school problems; identify strategies for helping to prevent future incidents; and determine whether the chosen strategies are effective in countering the problem. One section of the guide discusses school-based problem-solving with School COP. The widely used and proven-effective SARA model for solving problems is summarized in one chapter, accompanied by two case studies on using the SARA model and School COP, one on bullying and the other on trespassing. Another section of the guide discusses how best to set up and use School COP for problem-solving. Topics addressed include customizing School COP, tips for using School COP, and tips for enhancing data quality. The appendix portrays a number of the School COP computer screens and provides an overall view of the application's "look and feel." This guide is a companion to the School COP software package and User Manual.
