AN ESSAY DESCRIBING AN OUT-PATIENT ADULT OFFENDER THERAPY GROUP FORMED BY THE AUTHOR.
Abstract
THE ADULT GROUP WHICH WAS FORMED IN 1965 HAS CONTINUED WITH ONLY A 10 MONTH BREAK IN 1972-73. THE GROUP WHICH HAS ON ITS ROSTER ABOUT 12-15 MEMBERS OPERATES ON A REVOLVING MEMBERSHIP, BUT SOME OFFENDERS HAVE REMAINED GROUP MEMBERS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. NEW THERAPISTS FROM A VARIETY OF DISCIPLINES ARE OCCASIONALLY BROUGHT IN AS FRESH GROUP LEADERS. THE PRINCIPLE TECHNIQUE USED IS THE PROMOTION OF MUTUAL SUPPORT AMONG GROUP MEMBERS SO THAT THEY CAN COMMUNICATE FREELY ABOUT THEIR PROBLEMS IN INTEGRATING BACK INTO SOCIETY. RESULTS NOTED BY THE AUTHOR INCLUDE SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT OF MINOR SEXUAL DEVIANTS, MODERATE SUCCESS IN THE BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION OF COMPULSIVE OFFENDERS, AND A PROVISION FOR LONG TERM SUPPORT OF PAROLED PRISONERS...TWH
