The content of group-specific component (Gc) in bloodstains, stored at room temperature, was examined using the Laurell rocket technique.

Abstract

Concentrations of Gc were found at the edge and center of the stain respectively. Most bloodstains (86 percent) had either the same amount of Gc or more Gc at the edge than at the center of the stain. Thus, Gc is a stable protein and as such is well-suited for forensic casework. However, its tendency to diffuse to the edge of a stain should be taken into account when areas of bloodstains are selected for analysis. (Publisher abstract)
