NARRATIVE AND STATISTICAL EXAMINATION OF VARIOUS CHARACTERISTICS OF PAROLEES WHICH MIGHT SERVE AS INDICATORS OF SUCCESSFUL POST-RELEASE OUTCOME.
Abstract
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS CONSIDERED INCLUDE AGE, DURATION OF PRIOR CRIMINALITY, PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH GOVERNMENT AGENCIES DEALING WITH CRIME, TYPES OF OFFENSES COMMITTED, INTELLIGENCE, RACE, NATIONALITY, SEX, AND BODY CHARACTERISTICS. OF THE GROSS CHARACTERISTICS READILY AVAILABLE FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF PRISONERS, THOSE MOST CLOSELY RELATED TO PAROLE OUTCOME WERE FOUND TO BE AGE AND CRIMINAL RECORD. INTELLIGENCE, RACE, NATIONALITY, SEX, AND BODY BUILD WERE FOUND NOT TO HAVE SUFFICIENTLY MARKED OR CONSISTENT RELATIONSHIPS TO PAROLE OUTCOME FOR LARGE NUMBERS OF OFFENDERS TO BE VERY USEFUL IN EVALUATING PAROLEES.
