REPORT ON A PROJECT THAT ESTABLISHED A CENTER IN JANUARY, 1976, TO PROVIDE COUNSELING SERVICES TO JUVENILE STATUS OFFENDERS AND THEIR FAMILIES RESIDING IN THE GREATER NEWARK, DELAWARE AREA.
Abstract
IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE PROJECT OBJECTIVES, A FAMILY CRISIS COUNSELING CENTER WAS SET UP TO PROVIDE A MAXIMUM OF 40 JUVENILES BETWEEN THE AGES OF 11 AND 17 WITH BOTH INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY COUNSELING ON A WEEKLY BASIS. IMPACT OF THE PROJECT'S SERVICES WAS ONLY PARTIALLY STUDIED BECAUSE TOO LITTLE TIME HAD ELASPED SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE PROJECT. CLIENTS WERE TO BE EVALUATED ON A FOLLOW-UP BASIS AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THEY HAD HAD ANY FURTHER POLICE CONTACTS RESULTING IN ADJUDICATION RECOMMENDATIONS WERE MADE FOR SCREENING CLIENT APPLICATIONS MORE CAREFULLY AND DELETING AGE LIMITATIONS. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT PRECAUTIONS BE TAKEN SO THAT THE TIME YOUTHS SPEND IN THE PROJECT BE INCORPORATED WITH SENTENCING OR PROBATIONARY REQUIREMENTS. FINALLY, IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE STAFF ATTEMPT TO TERMINATE CLIENTS AT A MORE RAPID PACE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)...KAP
