ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND FUNDING DURING PHASE II OF CLEVELAND'S PUBLIC AWARENESS-ORIENTED AUTO THEFT CONTROL PROGRAM.
Abstract
ACHIEVEMENTS DURING THIS PERIOD INCLUDED WIDESPREAD PUBLIC RECOGNITION OF THE AUTO THEFT PROBLEM AND A MARKED SUBSEQUENT INCREASE IN LOCKING OF CARS, FORMATION OF A NEW POLICE AUTO THEFT INVESTIGATION UNIT, INITIATIVES TOWARD PASSAGE OF STATE ANTI-AUTO THEFT LAWS, FUNDING FOR CONTINUED OPERATION, AND PROGRAM SUPPORT BY STATE HIGHWAY PATROL AND CIVIC AND BUSINESS GROUPS. PLANS FOR THE PROGRAM'S THIRD YEAR OF OPERATION CALL FOR MAINTAINING THE INTENSIVE PUBLIC INFORMATION EFFORTS, DEVELOPMENT OF A TELEPHONE HOOK-UP TO REPORT TIPS TO THE POLICE, SPONSORING JOINT PLANNING CONFERENCES FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE OFFICIALS, AND DEVELOPMENT OF A PILOT REHABILITATION PROGRAM TO BE AIMED AT YOUNG CLEVELAND AREA OFFENDERS.
