REPORT OF A PROJECT TO DESIGN AN IMPROVED RECORDS SYSTEM WITH RECOMMENDED FORMS AND PURGE INFORMATION FOR A COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT CONSISTING OF 37 INDIVIDUALS SERVING A POPULATION OF 60,100 IN A 2,500 SQUARE MILE AREA.
Abstract
THE COLLECTION OF INFORMATION FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE TASK WAS BASED PRIMARILY ON OBSERVATION OF RECORDS FACILITIES, FILES, AND REPORT PREPARATION AND PROCESSING; AND INTERVIEWS WITH EMPLOYEES FAMILIAR WITH CURRENT PROCEDURES AND OPERATIONS. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE GIVEN CONCERNING THE FOLLOWING AREAS: MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE, REPORTING SYSTEM, FILES, REPORT PREPARATION AND PROCESSING, AND FOLLOW-UP INVESTIGATIVE RECORDS. THE RETENTION AND DESTRUCTION OF RECORDS IS DISCUSSED ALONG WITH A PLAN FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS. THE STUDY WAS CARRIED OUT IN OCTOBER OF 1975.
