This kit provides educators, police officers, community volunteers, parents, or other adults who work with teens the material and guidance necessary to involve teens in the prevention of crime, drug use, and violence.
Abstract
In addition to a user's guide, the kit contains reproducible materials to distribute to teens and 10 program papers. The reproducible materials are designed to be copied, printed, photocopied, or offset. All brochures can be individualized by adding local addresses, phone and fax numbers, and web sites. Among the materials are tips on managing conflict, shoplifting prevention, the prevention of dating violence, helping a friend to stop using drugs, vandalism prevention, and various messages pertinent to the prevention of various types of drug use. The 10 program papers are designed to provide background information on various crime prevention topics that pertain to teens and to guide a teen-led comprehensive community effort to prevent juvenile crime. Topics covered in the papers include how to understand and work effectively with teens, helping teens take charge of community issues, a guide to safer schools, reducing crime and violence by teaching tolerance, helping kids in trouble, involving teens in drug abuse prevention, the danger of teens having guns, gang prevention, preventing domestic violence and child abuse, and teens involved in School Crime Watch.
