THIS JUDICIAL COUNCIL REPORT ANALYZES THE NEED FOR ADDITIONAL SUPERIOR COURT JUDGESHIPS IN ALL 42 JUDICIAL CIRCUITS IN GEORGIA.
Abstract
DATA WERE COLLECTED FOR THE 1979 FISCAL YEAR IN THE SUPERIOR, STATE, PROBATE, AND JUVENILE COURTS OF GEORGIA. THE NINE DISTRICT ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS GATHERED DATA IN THOSE DISTRICTS WHICH HAD FILLED SUCH A POSITION AT THE TIME OF THE STUDY, AND THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURTS RESEARCH STAFF COLLECTED INFORMATION IN THE REMAINING DISTRICT WITH THE ASSISTANCE AND COOPERATION OF LOCAL COURT PERSONNEL. THE REPORT ANALYZES JUDICIAL COUNCIL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 1980, INVESTIGATES THE NUMBER OF FILINGS AND DISPOSITIONS IN EACH CIRCUIT, PRESENTS THE 1980 CIRCUIT POPULATION, AND DISCUSSES POTENTIAL SOURCES OF JUDICIAL ASSISTANCE. THE JUDICIAL COUNCIL RECOMMENDATIONS, SUPPORTED BY THE FINDINGS IN THIS REPORT, CALL FOR THE CREATION OF ADDITIONAL JUDGESHIPS IN 7 OF GEORGIA'S 42 JUDICIAL CIRCUITS. EXTENSIVE TABLES PRESENT THE RESULTS OF THE DETAILED SURVEY OF CASELOAD AND DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF ALL 42 JUDICIAL CIRCUITS. DUTIES OF THE JUDICIAL COUNCIL/ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURTS; JURISDICTION OF SUPERIOR, STATE, PROBATE, AND JUVENILE COURTS; EXPENDITURES FOR AN ADDITIONAL SUPERIOR COURT JUDGESHIP, AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ARE APPENDED. DEFINITIONS OF DATA ELEMENTS AND CASE TYPES COLLECTED FOR THE STUDY ARE INCLUDED.
