Abstract
It describes the functions of the components of Georgia's criminal justice system and portrays statistically through graphs, charts, and tables the essential workload data. The report's four divisions pertain to law enforcement, the courts, corrections, and pardons and paroles. The information is organized to reflect the movement of an offender through the criminal justice system. Data analyses are made from data collected from each major system component. Each section begins with a brief description of the overall structure of a component followed by a description of the method by which its relevant data are collected and processed. Statistics in the law enforcement section profile index and nonindex crimes, arrests, clearances, law enforcement personnel, traffic enforcement, and the work of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Information and data on Georgia courts cover the structure, filings, and dispositions of the various types of courts. The section on corrections profiles prisons, inmates, and probationers, and data are provided on pardons and paroles. The concluding section of this report presents statements by officials representing each major criminal justice component and addresses critical issues confronting Georgia's criminal justice system. 72 tables, 30 figures, and appended descriptions of methodology
