This report highlights the activities of the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles in fiscal year 1994.
Abstract
The report includes the Board's mission statement and statement of responsibilities, a list of board members, a description of the agency's organization, and an overview of the training, workload, and duties of Georgia parole officers. In 1994, the Board continued its trend of releasing fewer inmates on parole, ordered the review of over 2,000 cases involving violent or repeat offenders, denied clemency in two capital cases, expanded its contact with crime victims and those working on victims' behalf, gained national accreditation for its field services division, and required child sex offenders to register with authorities upon release. In addition, the Board added a classification/case management system for officers, strengthened its field programs for parolees, expanded its use of electronic monitoring, and reviewed the case of a man wrongly convicted of a drug dealer. The report answers some commonly asked questions about parole, outlines parole decision guidelines, and describes victim and program services. 20 figures
