THE ACTIVITIES OF THE AGENCY RESPONSIBLE FOR STUDYING GEORGIA'S COURTS, MAKING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THEIR IMPROVEMENT, AND PROVIDING ASSISTANCE TO LOCAL COURT PERSONNEL ARE REPORTED.
Abstract
DURING FISCAL YEAR 1977, THE GEORGIA ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURTS COMPLETED SYSTEMWIDE PROJECTS AND STUDIES THAT PROVIDED COMPREHENSIVE DATA ON THE WORKLOADS AND OPERATIONS OF THE STATE'S COURTS. A STATEWIDE STUDY OF COURTHOUSE FACILITIES WAS COMPLETED, A MASTER PLAN FOR THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM WAS PUBLISHED, LONG-RANGE GOALS FOR THE JUDICIARY WERE DEVELOPED, AND CASELOAD DATA FOR THE FOUR PRINCIPAL COURTS OF RECORD WERE GATHERED. A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM OF CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR THE JUDICIARY WAS PLANNED WITH THE CREATION OF THE JUDICIAL COLLEGE OF GEORGIA. THE NEWLY APPOINTED JUDICIAL PLANNING COMMITTEE BEGAN WORK ON PROGRAMS FOR COORDINATING THE USE OF FEDERAL FUNDS TO IMPROVE THE STATE'S COURTS. THE ANNUAL REPORT OFFERS AN OVERVIEW OF THE AGENCY'S SERVICES TO LOCAL COURTS, STUDIES, RECOMMENDATIONS, AND OTHER ACTIVITIES. THE REPORT ALSO INCLUDES SUMMARIES OF THE JUDICIAL WORK OF THE PRINCIPAL COURTS OF RECORD AND A REVIEW OF THE PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS COORDINATED BY THE COURT ADMINISTRATORS FOR THE JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRICTS CREATED BY THE JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATION ACT OF 1976.
