This annotated bibliography lists 401 sources presenting the research and observations that form the basis of popular conceptions of female offenders, particularly juvenile offenders, and their forms of crime.
Abstract
The sources also identify policy and practice related to female offenders and the past and current changes in their handling by the criminal justice system. The papers, journal articles, and books date from 1858 to the present. Most were published between the late 1960's and the early 1980's. An introduction examines the statistics on female criminality and their limitations. Listings of 17 additional references without annotations, 23 other information sources, and cassette tapes.
