These 20 papers present the perspectives of four categories of feminist criminology: feminist empiricism, critical feminism, standpoint feminism, and cultural criticism.
Abstract
The papers cover theoretical perspectives as well as empirical findings from the United States, Australia, Brazil, Great Britain, India, Italy, and New Zealand. Individual papers focus on the rationale and main focal areas of feminist criminology, perspectives on female offenders, issues related to sexism, the history of attitudes toward female offenders, court processing of prostitutes, and infanticide. Additional papers focus on media coverage of female criminality; female victims; the fictional portrayal of outlaw women in the movie "Thelma and Louise"; concepts of coercion and consent in sexual assault; and power and the idea of leaving in love, work, and the confirmation hearings involving Anita Hill and United States Supreme Court justice nominee Clarence Thomas. Further papers examine wives who murdered in early modern England, attitudes toward female sexuality, and issues and trends in feminist criminology.
