ANTHOLOGY OF ARTICLES PRESENTING CRITIQUES OF PRESENT METHODOLOGIES AND ALTERNATIVE PROPOSALS FOR USING PRISONS AS INSTRUMENTS OF REHABILITATION.
Abstract
THE MAJOR POINT OF THIS COLLECTION IS THAT IMPRISONMENT IS AN UNDESIRABLE WAY OF DEALING WITH CRIMINALS AND OTHER METHODS SHOULD BE SUBSTITUTED FOR IT. IN GENERAL, THE AUTHORS AGREE THAT PRISON DOES NOT DETER CRIMINALS, REFORM THEM, OR REHABILITATE THEM. THEY URGE THE ABANDONMENT OF UNWORKABLE METHODS AND AN INCREASED RELIANCE ON THE BEHAVIORAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCES.
