In assessing the fundamentals of crime prevention, it must be recognized that criminals cannot be categorized neatly as accidental, occasional, violent, or professional criminals and that crime causes cannot be oversimplified.
Abstract
Crime prevention programs fall under six basic headings: (1) coordinated community programs; (2) school programs; (3) police programs; (4) intramural guidance programs; (5) extramural guidance programs; and (6) boys clubs and recreation programs. Crime prevention calls for education, and any crime prevention measure must be all-inclusive. Attacking crime and delinquent behavior at the source must be the objective of social workers, psychiatrists, educators, legislators, and public officials. Specific crime prevention initiatives are identified that focus on young people. 15 notes
