THE PRIMARY GOALS OF THIS GRANT WERE TO REDUCE THE AVERAGE TIME REQUIRED FOR PROCESSING CASES FROM 88 TO 78 DAYS AND TO INCREASE THE CONVICTION RATE FOR IMPACT CRIMES FROM 79.4 TO 83.4 PERCENT WITHIN 12 MONTHS.
Abstract
THE GOAL OF REDUCING COURT PROCESSING TIME WAS MET - AND EXCEEDED (69 DAYS) IF ALLOWANCE IS MADE FOR THOSE CASES NOT UNDER CONTROL OF THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY. HOWEVER, THE GOAL OF INCREASING THE CONVICTION RATE WAS NOT MET. THE CONVICTION RATE FOR THE PROJECT PERIOD WAS 78 PER CENT. TABLES ARE INCLUDED WHICH PRESENT THE MONTHLY DISPOSITION OF IMPACT DEFENDANTS AND MONTHLY AVERAGES FOR COURT PROCESSING TIME. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS DATA ON THE DISPOSITION OF THOSE CASES (FIVE PER CENT) OPEN AT THE END OF 90 DAYS.
