A STUDY OF 3,350 FINGERPRINT IDENTIFICATIONS FROM THE FILES OF THE CRIMINALISTICS DIVISION OF THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNDERTAKEN TO DETERMINE THE PRINT AREAS MOST FREQUENTLY RESULTING IN IDENTIFIABLE PRINTS.
Abstract
THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE RIGHT HAND AND LEFT HAND ACCOUNT FOR A NEARLY EQUAL NUMBER OF CRIME SCENE IDENTIFICATIONS. AS FAR AS THE FREQUENCY OF INDIVIDUAL LATENT PRINTS, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FREQUENCY ORDER WAS THUMB, MIDDLE, AND INDEX; PRINTS FROM THE RING FINGER WERE FOUND TO APPEAR MORE FREQUENTLY THAN WAS PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT.
