Abstract
FORT VALLEY, THE COUNTY SEAT OF PEACH COUNTY, IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES SOUTH OF MACON. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WAS REQUESTED BY THE FORT VALLEY CHIEF OF POLICE TO PROVIDE AN INDEPENDENT ASSESSMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT'S PROBLEMS AND SHORTCOMINGS AS A BASIS FOR ORDERLY PROGRESS. THIS ANALYSIS WAS DIRECTED AT THOSE AREAS OF DEPARTMENT OPERATIONS WHICH EXHIBITED THE GREATEST POTENTIAL FOR IMPROVEMENT IN EFFICIENCY. ANALYSES CONDUCTED DURING THIS STUDY, TOGETHER WITH RESULTANT CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS, WERE BASED ON OBSERVATIONS OF OPERATING PROCEDURES, A REVIEW OF WORK DOCUMENTS AND REPORTS, EXAMINATION OF STATISTICAL DATA AND REPORTS, AND INTERVIEWS WITH DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL. AMONG THE AREAS EXAMINED WERE PERSONNEL, ORGANIZATION, MANPOWER USAGE, RECORDS MANAGEMENT, COMMUNITY RELATIONS, TRAINING, EQUIPMENT, AND PHYSICAL FACILITIES. ACTUAL CONDITIONS RELATING TO EACH OF THESE AREAS ARE DESCRIBED, AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT AND/OR REFORM OF EACH OF THESE AREAS ARE PRESENTED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
