This review, written as a guide for forensic scientists, gives an account of the administration of justice in England and Wales. The background to, and important features of, the Courts Act of 1971 are presented, and followed by a description of the jurisdiction and constitution of the various courts. The duties and qualifications of those involved in the trial process, including appeal, are then described. (Author abstract)
