This chapter discusses the forensic odontologist as an expert witness, reviews the general characteristics of human dentition, and delineates procedures for the identification of human dentition.
Abstract
Topics covered include matching of teeth patterns through dental records and dental x-rays; identification criteria such as dental loss and dental restoration; and identification through examination of skull and jaw. Also considered is forensic odontology in mass disasters. The examination of bite marks and the legality of bite mark evidence and its admissibility are also discussed. The final topic concerns forensic odontology and child abuse. Tables, photographs, and 44 footnotes are given.
