This 1991 annual report of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's Forensic Laboratory Services (FLS) reports on the activities of each of the sections and the general activities of the FLS.
Abstract
In terms of operational endeavors, the FLS continues its progress toward the implementation of the RFLP procedures of the DNA technology. A biology section will be created as the organizational entity that will deliver the new DNA service to clients. The gunshot-residue-analysis program was finalized with the full implementation of a centralized operational GSR service. The Forensic Laboratory Automated Information Retrieval system, a management information system project, continues to be pursued. The system will ensure that the information needs of working scientists and technologists, as well as all levels of management, will be met, and information management will become more efficient and effective. This report includes laboratory statistics; case reports; and information on training, personnel, membership and activities in professional organizations, conference attendance and presentations, publications, and general employment conditions. Reports are presented by the Alcohol Section, the Analytical Services Section, the Biology Section, the Chemistry Section, the Document Section, the Firearms Section, the Toxicology Section, and the Science and Technology Branch. 4 tables
