This book, Forensic Interviewing in Criminal Court Matters: A Guide for Clinicians, presents a broad focus for clinicians on conducting forensic interviews.
Abstract
The primary aim of this book is to offer broad assistance to clinicians on conducting forensic interviews. The book is not intended to act as a step-by-step guide on conducting forensic interviews, but rather as a focus on the interview process and on general areas of inquiry. The book has 11 chapters that are divided into 3 main sections. The first three chapters of the book deal with general issues related to forensic interviews. These chapters cover psychometric issues and interview formats, how to conduct a forensic interview and pre-interview activities, and deception and response bias in forensic interviewing. The second section of the book has four chapters that discuss issues of particular interest in specific criminal justice settings. These chapters cover practical considerations of forensic interviews, assessing the mental status at the time of offense (MSO) interviews, adjudicative competence interviews, and predisposition interviews. The third section of the book has four chapters that address forensic interviews as they relate to more specific forensic groups. These chapters cover forensic interviews with violent offenders, sexual offenders, and adolescent offenders; the fourth chapter in section three discusses third-party sources of information in forensic mental health evaluations.
