Abstract
THE BOOK DIVIDES INTO THREE PARTS. THE FIRST AND MAJOR PART TRACES THE DEVELOPMENT AND REVERBERATION OF THE SOCIETAL REACTION, PARTICULARLY AS REFLECTED IN THE MASS MEDIA AND THE ACTIONS OF THE ORGANIZED SYSTEM OF SOCIAL CONTROL. THE SECOND PART OF THE BOOK LOOKS AT THE EFFECTS OF THE REACTION AND THE THIRD LOCATES THE GROWTH OF THE FOLK DEVILS AND THE MORAL PANIC IN HISTORICAL AND STRUCTURAL TERMS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
