Abstract
The purpose of the structure of this program is to give law enforcement basic recruits a strong foundation from which they can continue to develop and improve their driving skills to consistently high level while maintaining safe driving habits. The basic principles of safe, defensive driving are emphasized throughout this course. Most of the driving exercises recommended are those that driving instructors have been using for years. The differences are in the actual measurements for the exercise layouts. The measurements stated in the course guide must be followed in order to insure uniformity in the results. The qualification exercises require only two traffic cone layout configurations, one an intersection configuration and the other the very familiar evasive maneuver or controlled braking layout.
