Abstract
In July 1992, 47,471 inmates were in custody; projected population figures for June 1993 are 74,550 without early release and 50,655 with early release. In January 1993, there were 2,885 admissions and 2,873 releases. Admissions included new commitments from court, new sentences, and recaptured escapees. Releases involved expired sentences, probation, provisional release supervision, community release with and without supervision, parole, conditional release, and deaths. For fiscal year 1991-1992, the number of correctional system admissions totaled 35,771; the corresponding figure for the first 7 months of fiscal year 1992-1993 was 19,417. Data are provided on the inmate population by month and jurisdiction between July 1992 and January 1993, along with data on the number of escapes and recaptures.
