This County Detention Facilities Summary provides a monthly profile of Florida's detention facility inmate populations for October 1995; monthly average daily population (ADP) figures are given for male, female, adult, and juvenile inmates.
Abstract
Inmate population figures are arranged into felony, misdemeanor, and other subcategories. The other subcategory includes parole violators, State inmates, undocumented aliens, holdings for other jurisdictions, and individuals detained under the Baker Act (mental health) and Myers Act (alcoholism). Within both felony and misdemeanor subcategories, data are tabulated on inmates held for trial and sentencing and on inmates detained or sentenced for probation violations. Data on the ADP and incarceration rates are tabulated by county, with data on the capacity of county detention facilities and on the number and percent of felony and misdemeanor pretrial inmates at each detention facility included. Statistics indicate 42,144 inmates were housed in Florida's county detention facilities as of October 1995. Statewide ADP totals as of October 1995 included 36,305 adult males (86.2 percent), 4,669 adult females (11.1 percent), 1,114 juvenile males (2.6 percent), and 56 juvenile females (0.1 percent). About 73 percent of all inmates were incarcerated for felonies, while 20.7 percent were detained for misdemeanors. Offenders held for trial represented 56.1 percent of the inmate population. 5 tables
