Project New Pride replication program directors, discuss national strategies for promoting employment opportunities for their clients.
Abstract
A joint national focus is needed to further local employment opportunities. Juvenile ex-offenders need training in job-seeking skills. They could be given jobs in construction firms engaged in local housing rehabilitation work (as was done in Denver). Employment opportunities must be created and resources tapped from such areas as the Department of Labor and State and local funds. The program directors plan to appeal to labor unions, private employers, and such prestigious bodies as the Federal Coordinating Council for help. Participants agree to begin preparing a presentation to this Council as an initial thrust. Future meetings, telephone conferences, and additional ideas are discussed.
