PRESENTATIONS AND DISCUSSIONS FROM A CONFERENCE ON THE PRIVATE SECURITY INDUSTRY -- BUILDING GUARDS, BUILDING SECURITY DEVICES, PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS -- ARE REPORTED.
Abstract
APPROXIMATELY 40 REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE FIELDS OF PUBLIC SECURITY, LAW ENFORCEMENT, AND EDUCATION DISCUSSED THE ISSUES OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING FOR PRIVATE SECURITY PERSONNEL AND POLARIZATION OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECURITY. PRESENTATIONS ON EDUCATION AND TRAINING COVER CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT FOR PRIVATE PROTECTIVE SERVICES, THE 2-YEAR ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN SECURITY AND LOSS PREVENTION, AND SECURITY TRAINING FOR THE GUARD FORCE. PAPERS ON POLARIZATION DISCUSS THE INTERRELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND PRIVATE SECURITY, THE GROWTH OF PRIVATE SECURITY IN THE UNITED STATES, AND THE CENTRALIZATION OF REGISTRATION, LICENSING, AND RULEMAKING FOR THE PRIVATE SECURITY INDUSTRY BY INDIVIDUAL STATES. ALL EXCEPT THE FINAL PRESENTATION ARE FOLLOWED BY SUMMARIES OF DISCUSSIONS AMONG CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS. RESOLUTIONS ARE PRESENTED RELATIVE TO EDUCATION, TRAINING, PUBLIC-PRIVATE RELATIONSHIPS, AND OTHER ISSUES.
