This report on the First Joint International Conference on Research in Crime Prevention (1984) presents scientific essays on crime prevention in Islamic societies as well as conference recommendations, opening speeches, and position papers.
Abstract
Scientific essays address the effect of Islamic education on crime prevention, the application of the ''theft hadd' (amputation of a hand for conviction of theft) and its deterrent effect, penalty in Islamic law, and guidelines for key issues in Islamic economics. A conference report summarizes cooperation in crime prevention within the United Nations and other international agencies and the exchange of views on the Seventh United Nations Congress on the prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders. The conference discussion of the effects of Islamic legislation on criminality is summarized. Recommendations pertain to increased international collaboration in crime prevention research, the distribution of conference reports, and the translation of relevant resources from non-Arab and Arab resources. Conference opening speeches encourage international cooperation in crime prevention research. Position papers cite the importance of international cooperation in crime prevention research, recommend specific forms of cooperation, and identify research issues. Conference participants are listed. For individual paper, see NCJ 100608.
